Museum of Islamic Art Doha: What to See and How to Plan Your Visit
Updated October 28, 2026 · 4 min read
Allow at least two hours inside the Museum of Islamic Art; that is the museum’s own recommendation. The admission ticket starts at €12.36 and has 396 reviews.
What makes the collection manageable
The galleries are arranged by broad themes, periods and regions rather than as one simple timeline. Metalwork, ceramics, jewellery, textiles, wood and glass come from a wide geographic area. Choose two or three materials that interest you and read closely; trying to inspect every case makes the visit blur together.
The building and view across the bay are part of the experience. Add another 30–45 minutes for the atrium, waterfront and MIA Park if the weather is comfortable.
Hours and practical rules
The official schedule currently lists Wednesday as closed, Friday opening at 1:30pm and later opening on Thursday. Hours can change around holidays, so check the museum site before travelling. Shoulders and knees should be covered. Personal photography is generally allowed, but flash, tripods and selfie sticks are not.
Tickets include the permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions according to the museum’s visitor guidance. Large bags must be stored, and all visitors pass security.
Getting there
Taxi access is easy, but parking fills quickly at weekends. The museum sits by the Corniche and combines naturally with Souq Waqif or an evening dhow cruise. The nearby park remains useful even after gallery hours.
Our recommendation
Book the Museum of Islamic Art ticket, reserve two hours inside and keep a separate half-hour for the building and waterfront. Do not schedule it on Wednesday without checking for a special opening.
